An inherited safe with no combination, a dial that has drifted, a keypad that stopped responding: each has a proper way in that preserves the box. We open, service and reset safes for homes and small businesses in Jarvis, and explain how to keep the mechanism turning for the next owner. We serve Townsend and Varency as well.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 57 in 100 homes · older homes
  • About 57% of homes in Haldimand County were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.Older homes tend to have had many hands on their doors: owners, tenants, tradespeople, family. A locksmith visiting such a house pays attention to who holds keys now, and rekeying or a keyed-alike set often matters more than any new hardware.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 84% of homes in Haldimand County (2021 Census).Detached homes are exposed to weather on every side, so exterior locks see rain, salt and freezing air directly. Choosing hardware with a good finish and a cylinder that tolerates cold, then lubricating it properly, keeps every door turning through winter.

High Security Locks

Some high security customers want no visible change at all: the same handle, the same finish, a cylinder inside that quietly resists everything the old one did not. Others want the reassurance of a heavy visible bolt. Both are available and we will help you choose.

  1. Layer 1The key

    High Security Locks

The restricted keys you bought years ago are no longer restricted; the locksmith mentioned the patent has run out and blanks are sold openly. Your key control quietly stopped being control.

  2. Layer 2The cylinder

    Lock Replacement & Upgrade

Every morning the front door key needs the same little dance: push in, lift, wiggle, turn. It has been getting worse for a year, and this week it took three tries in the cold before the deadbolt finally gave.

  3. Layer 3The bolt and strike

    Deadbolt Installation

The front door has a handsome lever and a keyed knob, and that is all. Nothing above it.

  4. Layer 4The door and frame

    Break-In Damage Lock Repair

The patio slider is sitting crooked on its track. Its latch is snapped, the frame is bowed where it was pried, and the panel no longer meets the jamb, so the house cannot be closed up for the night.

Asked and answered

What is an interchangeable core, and how do I know if we have one?

An interchangeable core is a small, self-contained cylinder that slides out of the lock with a special control key and drops back in on a new combination. Look at the keyway: a figure-eight shaped face on a lever or mortise housing is the usual sign. Buildings choose them because a lost key or a staff change is handled by swapping the core rather than taking the lock apart, and a locksmith can carry cores pinned to your system.

What should I have ready before the visit?

The safe's brand and model if you know them, whether the lock is a dial, a keypad or a key, roughly how old the safe is, and how the combination was lost or forgotten. Mention whether the safe holds anything with its own handling needs, such as firearms or business records, and how many people should have the new code afterward.

What does a typical installation or servicing visit involve?

The visit opens with a look at what the safe needs to protect and where it will sit, moves into positioning and anchoring for a new unit or bolt-work and lock testing for an existing one, and ends with the lock cycled several times and a combination or code set that only the owner knows. The exact order shifts depending on whether the job is a new installation or ongoing servicing.

What's the difference between an electric strike and a magnetic lock?

An electric strike fits into the existing door frame and works with the door's own latch or bolt, releasing it briefly for a valid credential while otherwise behaving like an ordinary strike plate. A magnetic lock instead clamps the door shut with an electromagnet mounted at the head of the frame, and it is always installed with a request-to-exit device so someone leaving is never held up looking for a way out.
